Info on Mangosteen growing/harvesting/formulating

XanGo, via Wild Flavors, harvests our fruit from privately owned and operated mangosteen orchards that are completely free of pesticides. Using privately owned and operated mangosteen orchards allows control to what the fruit is exposed to and protects the environment from deforestation.  We are asked about a website frequently, naturalhomecures.com. What I can tell you is that many of the claims made on this and other similar sites, do not relate to XANGO. Assuming you are familiar with the Natural Home Cures site here is some information that may be helpful in understanding the quality of XANGO.

Pesticides:  We do not use pesticides. In fact pesticides are unnecessary when it comes to the mangosteen fruit as the pericarp (rind) of the mangosteen fruit is so bitter that most bugs and pests do not bother it.

Irradiation: Irradiation is a common form of "cleaning" fresh fruits and vegetables when being brought into the United States. Due to the natural processes that XANGO uses to harvest and import the whole fruit puree of the mangosteen, it does not undergo irradiation.

Pasteurization: Federal Law requires pasteurization, or a warning label of possible microbial contamination in products that are not pasteurized.  We do pasteurize our juice for this purpose. Extensive research shows that the processes of flash freezing and pasteurization do not affect xanthone content or efficacy.

Pericarp: XANGO is the only company that uses 100% of the mangosteen fruit, that includes the rind (pericarp) of the fruit in a fruit juice beverage. Generally when others claim to use the entire fruit they are referencing the white pulpy fruit in the middle. When they claim to be using the pericarp they are generally referencing scraping taken from the inside of the rind or extracts of the pericarp which provides only alpha mangostin.

When it comes down to the potency of powder verses liquid there is absolutely no comparison. Dried powders and spiked or standardized extracts are a poor substitute for the natural form. Powders and extracts are a way to reduce costs and simplify the manufacturing process. In order to dry down or concentrate the xanthones other healthful substances in the fruit must be discarded. Some of the wonderful water soluble substances found in the mangosteen fruit include proanthocyanadins (the active substance in grape seed extract), catechins (the active substance in green tea) and other health beneficial bioflavonoids all of which are lost when the fruit is dried down or xanthones are extracted.

The mangosteen fruit contains 39 known xanthones, the majority of those being found in the pericarp. When it comes to arguments about the xanthone potency of capsules verses juice; it is important to note that the use of the entire fruit is always going to be better than using select parts of the fruit. When converting the mangosteen fruit into capsule form it is impossible to get the entire fruit into capsule that can only hold 400-600 milligrams.

ORAC: When it comes to antioxidants and ORAC scores studies that have been performed it has been revealed that more is not necessarily better as our bodies peak at a certain amount. When that limit has been reached the xanthones no longer have the effect that they had while consuming lesser amounts.  We deliver efficacious doses of xanthones that we know are absorbed and utilized by the body. That is way we recommend 1-3 oz periodically throughout the day. We have recently completed the first human clinical trial on XANGO Juice.  This study was a double-blind placebo controlled human clinical trial.  The paper has been submitted for publication and until it has been accepted, we cannot release the actual results of the study.  In this study we showed: that xanthones, from XANGO Juice, are bioavailable and absorbed into the bloodstream,  inflammatory markers were significantly decreased, cardiovascular disease markers were significantly decreased and significant body mass was also decreased in an eight week period. To sum  up this research the Xanthones found in XANGO juice are being found in the body and are working the way they should. We are the first and only company to have these results.

Sugar: XANGO juice has no added sugar. There is 2.7g of sugar per ounce of Mangosteen juice, making it a safe product to incorporate into a healthy diet for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics as any fruit juice can be incorporated by being cautious about the sugar content in other foods consumed. Even though XANGO Juice has not been tested specifically for benefits it would have on diabetes, Dr. Templeman has studied the benefits that the mangosteen fruit has on both Type I and Type II diabetes. He has found that the mangosteen fruit helps to "Improve glycemic (blood sugar) control as the amplitude of blood sugar fluctuations are significantly reduced" and "Decrease in the frequency of infection"(Re: The 90 Day Mangosteen Action Plan by Dr. Templeman pg. 18).
