Isra' and Mi'raj

♦Isra' is mentioned in chapter 17 of the Holy Quran called Al-Isra (The night journey), and it is a journey Allah made the prophet peace be upon him go in on the back of a creature named "Buraq". It is from Masjid Haram in Mecca to Masjid Al-Aqsa (Jerusalem Mosque).

♥{Glory to ((Allah)) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things).}♥ [Quran, 17:1]

♦ Mi'raj is a journey Allah made the prophet peace be upon him go in from Masjid Aqsa up into heaven when salat (prayer) was revealed to the prophet peace be upon him for the first time and where he lead all the prophets before him in prayer. It is not mentioned directly in the Holy Quran like Isra' but there is an allusion to it in chapter 53 of the Holy Quran:

♥{ 5. He was taught by one Mighty in Power. Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form). While he was in the highest part of the horizon: Then he approached and came closer. And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer. So did ((Allah)) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw.}♥ [Quran, 53:5-11]
Both journey took place in the same night. For Muslims, it is a special event, but there do nothing to celebrate it simply because the prophet peace be upon him did not celebrate it or asked us to celebrate that day. Therefore, there is no prayer for it, because apart from knowing what it is about, it is just like the rest of the days.

The journey came as a reward for the prophet peace be upon him after a really tough and hard year he spent after loosing his wife and then his uncle I think and after his people hurt him so bad and drove him out of Mecca. As a reward, Allah made him go through this journey up until he was close to the highest sky where the throne of Allah is. He also saw how people are gonna be after the judgment day, like people who are in paradise and hell, he also met all prophets and led them in prayer in the way we Muslims pray after Allah ordered him to pray that way.
