The Street Store

Hang up, help out

The Street Store concept affords underprivileged individuals with the opportunity to choose clothing items for themselves, thereby honoring their dignity.

The last Street Store was a success Alhamdulillah. Patrons received clothing, food hampers and hot coffee. Thank you to everyone who contributed ฿’֊
Majority of the patrons of the last Street Store were men. We ran out of men's clothing and shoes eventually, and a few men left with no items for themselves. (They chose items for their female family members instead.)

We'd greatly appreciate your clothing donations for our next event. This is a kind request to please ensure that the clothing you donate is in a decent condition. Unfortunately a few clothing items received for the last event were mouldly or extremely tattered. Kindly refrain from donating such items. Remember it's about honoring their dignity ❤

We're also hoping to provide patrons with personal hygiene items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, face towels, nail clippers etc. If you're able to donate towards this, please let us know ฿Œ้ŠŠDurban's next Street Store will be happening on the 7th August 2016 at 82 Florence Nzama (formerly Prince Alfred Street).

We're hoping to also start a database of all the patrons and their skill sets to assist them with employment opportunities and to add a sustainable component to the project rather than just giving a hand out. One of the patrons of the first Street Store, an electrician, was employed by Smartrac following the event. We're hoping to provide more patrons with such opportunities.
