Dry dams

*DEENS SOLUTION TO DRY DAMS*

As we know just last year our country was stricken with drought. Once again we are facing a peril of severe water restrictions due to extreme scarcity of water.

This is not the first time a calamity of this sort has dawned upon us (Muslims). We know that in the time of *Musa عليه السلام*, a drought had befallen them but the solution was simple, *Musa عليه السلام* gathered his people and turned to *الله سبحانه وتعالى*, beseeching Him for the blessing of rain, but a message was sent down saying that there is a sinner amongst them and only after he repents then such bounties of *الله سبحانه وتعالى* will descend upon them. From this we see that the barrier between us and the blessings of *الله سبحانه وتعالى* is our sins which serve rather as a magnet to the *عذاب* _(punishment)_ of *الله سبحانه وتعالى*.

*Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم  said:*
*_"When that time comes, await Allah's سبحانه وتعالى  punishment, ... and many other calamities will follow in quick succession as if the string of a rosary (Tasbeeh) has broken and the beads are falling rapidly..."_* [Mishkat]

It is only our sinful behaviour that is the cause of such *عذاب* _(punishment)_ befalling our communities. As Muslims, we know that we need to turn to *الله سبحانه وتعالى* in *istighfaar* for our sinful behaviour so that *الله سبحانه وتعالى* , through *His Infinite Mercy*, may pardon us and grant us favourable conditions (آمين ).

_*Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.'*_ [71:10-12]

A very virtuous act, as prescribed by the ulema, is to carry out *istighfaar* everyday together as family -as well as in the community - by reciting the following dua 300 times:

*لا اله الا انت سبحانك اني كنت من الظالمين*
*_"(Oh Allah) there is no deity except for Thee, Glory be to Thee, surely I am from amongst the sinners."_*

We should also recite the following duaa for rain and protection from drought as mentioned in the Hadeeth :

*اَللّهم السْقِنَا غَيْثًا مُّغِيْثًا مَّرِيْئًا مَّرِيْعًا نَّافِعًا غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ عَاجِلا غَيْرَ آجِل*
*_"Oh Allah, shower upon us abundant rain, beneficial not harmful, swiftly not delayed."_*

We make dua that *الله سبحانه وتعالى* forgive us, alleviates our difficulties and favours us with good conditions.
*آمين يا رب العالمين*
