Hazrat Maalik bin Dinaar رحمه الله went to visit Hazrat Rabia Basriyya رحمة الله عليها. He found in her home only a partly broken jug which she used for wudhu and drinking water; a very old straw mat on which she slept and a brick which she used as a pillow.
Hazrat Maalik رحمه الله said: "I have many affluent friends. Shall I ask them to bring some items for you?"
Hazrat Rabia رحمة الله عليها said: "O Maalik! Is my Provider, your Provider and the Provider of the wealthy not the same Being?"
Hazrat Maalik رحمه الله replied in the affirmative.

Then Hazrat Rabia رحمة الله عليها said: "What, has He forgotten about the needs of the poor on account of their poverty while he remembers the needs of the wealthy?"
Hazrat  Maalik رحمه الله replied: "It is not so."
Hazrat Rabia رحمة الله عليها then admonished: "When He never forgets anyone, why should we remind Him? He has wished this condition for me and I am pleased with it because it is His pleasure."
سبحان الله العظيم!
Examine the perfection of yaqeen this noble soul had. The lesson we derive is that notwithstanding any situation we are faced with, Allah Ta'ala is absolutely aware. Very importantly, let us never complain about taqdeer(fate). We are so helpless that even if we prostrate our entire lives, we cannot offer gratitude for even a glass of water.
If this is the reality, how then can we adopt arrogance, independence and laziness? May Allah Ta'ala grant us true subservience.
آمين يارب العالمين
