SAQAR

HAIR RAISING QUR'ANIC DESCRIPTION

Now what is so scary of Saqar? Indeed, this post will make any Believer quake and shiver. Saqar is a scary reality that none of us should ever experience,  and it serves as a frightening reminder for the heedless and negligent.

Allah (Azza wa Jall) describes the state of the mujrimeen (criminals) on the Day of Judgment thus:

ﻳَﻮْﻡَ ﻳُﺴْﺤَﺒُﻮﻥَ ﻓِﻲ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺭِ ﻋَﻠَﻰٰ ﻭُﺟُﻮﻫِﻬِﻢْ ﺫُﻭﻗُﻮﺍ ﻣَﺲَّ ﺳَﻘَﺮَ
"The Day they will be dragged on their faces into the Fire (it will be said to them): “Taste the touch of Saqar!"

Allah (Azza wa Jall) asks us in Surah Muddaththir:

ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺃَﺩْﺭَﺍﻙَ ﻣَﺎ ﺳَﻘَﺮُ
"And what will make you know (exactly) what Saqar is?" (74:27)

Then He (Allah Ta’ala) gives us the definition of Saqar:
ﻟَﺎ ﺗُﺒْﻘِﻲ ﻭَﻟَﺎ ﺗَﺬَﺭُ
"It spares not, nor does it leave!" (74:28)

Saqar does not let anything remain: Everything that goes into this fire will be burned and doomed.

And it does not leave behind: This fire will affect everyone and no part of them will be left untouched by the fire.

Furthermore it is, as mentioned in
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 29:
ﻟَﻮَّﺍﺣَﺔٌ ﻟِّﻠْﺒَﺸَﺮ
"Burning and blackening the skins!"

This Saqar is "lawwaahah" The Arabic word "laaha" is when skin darkens due to heat exposure, and also from hard work and thirst.

This ferocious fire will have a terrible effect on the skin of human beings, leaving their skins crisp, charred, scarred, and black!

The structure of this word shows us the continuous effect of Saqar: It not only burns once, but it continues to burn through skin and flesh again and again. The pain is simply beyond imagination.

As if this scary description was not enough to strike fear into our hearts, our most Merciful Allah Ta’ala, in order for us to escape this terrible fire, ends these ayaat with a reminder:

Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 30:
ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻬَﺎ ﺗِﺴْﻌَﺔَ ﻋَﺸَﺮَ
"Over it are nineteen."

Upon it are 19 angels, stern and strong, who do not disobey the command of Allah Azza wa Jall.
Who then, can escape from Saqar?

This serves as a stark reminder to me first :
>> Lets establish Salah on its stated time and pray with sincerity, not with laziness.
>> Lets avoid all types of Haraam.
>> Lets repent sincerely from all sins and practice abundance of fasting, tilaawat of Qur'an, charity etc.
>> Lets guard all our limbs, especially our eyes, ears and private parts.

I ask Allah Ta'ala to save us all from hellfire by means of His infinite mercy and grant us death upon "La Ilaha illallAllahu Muhammad ur Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam."

AMEEN
