Salatut Tasbeeh

http://www.al-miftah.com/the-virtue-method-of-salatut-tasbih/

The Virtue & Format of Salatut Tasbih

By Moulana Zeyad Danka

THE VIRTUES OF SALATUT TASBEEH

Salatut Tasbeeh is a very important and meritorious form of salah. This is evident from several ahadith, wherein Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) emphasised on it and enjoined it as a matter of great kindness and favour. As such, the Úlama, Jurists, Muhadditheen, and Sufis throughout the centuries have been particular in offering this Salah.

Sayyiduna Abbas (radiyallahu’anhu) has narrated that he was once informed by Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam), ”O Abbas! Should I not present to you? Should I not confer to you? Should I not inform you of such an act, which if you practise (these wordings of similar meaning were repeated in order to capture the attention of the listener and to emphasise the importance of the salah so as to instil a yearning to perform it), Allah Ta’ala will forgive all your sins, whether old or new, intentional or unintentional, minor or major, open or secret.” (After describing the method of performing this salah) Nabi (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) stated, ”If possible, you should offer this salah once everyday, and if you cannot perform it daily, then offer it on every Friday (weekly), or once a month, or once a year or at least once in your lifetime.” (Sunan Abu Dawud #1297)

THE STATUS AND IMPORTANCE OF SALATUT TASBEEH

Imam Al-Haakim رحمه الله who is an authority on hadith, has written, ”The authenticity of this hadith (of salatut tasbeeh) is supported by the fact that, since the second generation after the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) until our times, all the great teachers in the various sciences of Deen have been offering this salah with constancy and have been advising the people to do so. Among them was Imam Abdullah Ibn Mubaarak رحمه الله (he was the teacher of the teachers of Imam Bukhari رحمه الله).”

1 ; Imam Al-Baihaqi رحمه الله has stated that, even before Ibn Mubaarak رحمه الله , Imam Abul Jauzaaرحمه الله , a Tabi’ee (one who had seen the Sahabah (radiallahu anhum) and whose narrations are considered to be reliable, used to be very particular in offering this salah daily. As soon as he heard the azaan for the Zuhr Salah, he would go to the musjid and would complete this Salah before the Zuhr Salah.

2 Imam Abdul Aziz Ibn Abi Rawwaad رحمه الله who was the teacher of Ibn Mubaarak رحمه الله and who was a great devotee and saint, has stated, ”One who desires to attain Jannah should be constant in offering Salatut Tasbeeh.”

3 Allamah Taqi Ud-Deen As-Subki رحمه الله has stated, ” This salah is very important and one should not get misled if some people happen to deny its importance. The one, who ignores it even after learning about its immense reward, is negligent in religious matters, fails to act like virtuous people, and should not be considered as a reliable person.”

4 Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma) used to offer this Salah every Friday.

5 It is mustahab (commendable) to perform this salah on all those auspicious nights wherein extra ibadat (worship) are encouraged e.g. The 15th Night of Shabaan, The nights of Ramadan etc.

NOTE: The Authenticity of Salatut Tasbeeh has been affirmed by the muhadditheen. Many of them have written detailed articles on this matter. Allaamah Suyuti رحمه الله has enumerated up to 20 great muhadditheen who have accepted its authenticity. (Al-Laalil Masnoo’ah vol.2, pg.40) According to the principles of hadeeth, this hadith falls at least in the category of Hasan Ahadith. (seehere for more on the authenticity of Salatut Tasbih)

THE METHOD OF PERFORMING SALATUT TASBEEH

Imam Abdullah Ibn Mubaarak رحمه الله and many other Úlama narrate the following method of offering this salah. (This method is also reported from Rasulullah (sallallahu’alaihi wasallam) and is the preferred method). “After reciting thanaa and before reciting Surah Faatihah repeat these words (the third Kalimah) سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ ِللهِ وَلاَ اِلَهَ اِلاََّ اللهُُ وَاللهُُ اََكْبَرْ fifteen times. Then start with اَعُوْذُ and بِاسْمِ اللهِ and, after completing Surah Faatihah and another surah, these words (above mentioned) should be repeated ten times before the ruku, ten times during the ruku, ten times after standing up from the ruku, ten times in each sajdah and ten times while sitting between the two sajdahs. All four rakaats should be performed in this manner, thus completing seventy five times (tasbeehs) in each rakaat and 300 times (tasbeehs) in four rakaats.” (Sunan Tirmizi #481)

Hereunder is a brief outline of the format, and how many times the tasbeeh should be recited in each posture:

AFTER THANAA – BEFORE SURAH FAATIHA: x 15
[AS FOR THE 2nd, 3rd AND 4th RAKAAT, THE TASBEEHS SHOULD BE RECITED BEFORE COMMENCING WITH SURAH FAATIHA]

BEFORE RUKU: x 10

DURING RUKU: x 10

WHILE STANDING – AFTER RISING FROM THE RUKU: x 10

IN THE FIRST SAJDAH: x 10

SITTING POSTURE – BETWEEN BOTH SAJDAS: x 10

IN THE SECOND SAJDAH: x 10

TOTAL PER RAKAAT: 75

TOTAL IN FOUR RAKAATS: 300

There are no particular surahs specified for this salah. Any surah may be recited. However Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma) was once asked, ”Are there any particular surahs to be recited in this salah? He replied, ‘At takaasur (S.102), Al Asr (S.103), Al Kaafiroon (S.109) and Al Ikhlaas (S.112).” Some Úlama have also stated, ”The most virtuous surahs (to be recited in this salah) are Al Hadeed (S.57), Al Hashar (S.59), As Saff (S.61) and At Taghaabun (S.64).” (Raddul Muhtaar vol.2, pg.27)

SOME IMPORTANT POINTS TO KEEP IN MIND

1. Counting should not be done verbally as this act nullifies the salah. The best way is that the fingers should be kept in their position, but should be pressed one by one for counting. (Raddul Muhtaar vol.2, pg.27)

2. This Salah can be offered at any time of the day or night besides the three forbidden times. However, the more appropriate times, in order of preference, are: After midday (zawal), any time during the day, and any time during the night. (Fadhaail A’amaal, Virtues of Zikr pg.245)

3. According to some ahadith, the third Kalimah should also be followed by
ْ ِلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ اِلاََّ بِاللهِ الْعَلي العظيم
therefore better to recite it sometimes in addition to the third Kalimah.” (Ihyaa – vol.2, pg.267)

4. In the ruku, سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيْمْ and in the sajdah, سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الاَعْليَ should be recited before reciting the third kalimah.” (At Tarsheeh, Libayaani Salatit Tasbeeh pg.22)

5. If one missed out all or some tasbeehs in any posture, there will be no need to make sajda sahw (at the end of the salah) to compensate for this omission. However, the omitted amount should be made up for in the next posture unless the subsequent posture is that of qaumah (the standing position after ruku) or jalsah (the sitting position between the two sajdas). In these postures, one should recite the kalimas as specified and then cover up for the deficiency in the next act. For instance, if one omits the recitation of the tasbbeehs in the ruku, one should make up the deficiency in the first sajda. (Raddul Muhtar vol.2 pg.28)

6. Whilst performing this salah, it is also advisable to tie (fold) the hands when standing in Qaumah (the posture between the ruku and sajdah) when reciting the tasbeehs. (Ahsanul Fatawa vol. 3, pg.491)

PRACTICE AND CONVEY THIS GIFT GRANTED TO US BY RASULULLAH (SALLALLAHU ÁLAIHI WASALLAM).

What is love ?

Love is when Bilal (Radhiallahu 'anhu) stopped giving the adhan after the death of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
Love is Bilal leaving Madina after the Prophet’s (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) death because everything reminded him of his beloved
Love is Bilal seeing the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) in a dream telling him, "what is with this dryness/distance oh Bilal?" when a long time had elapsed since he visited the Prophet's (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) grave, prompting Bilal to head to Madinah upon waking
Love is Bilal arriving in Madinah in the middle of the night and Hasan and Hussain (Radhiallahu 'anhum) finding him at the maqam of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) crying and Hasan and Hussain insisting that he give the adhan for Fajr. People came rushing to the masjid: weeping and anguished -
reminded of their days with the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam)
Love is Bilal…when Umar ibn al Khattab (Radhiallahu 'anhu) asked him to give the adhan calling the army in Sham to prayer, and when he reached the part "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah" began to weep uncontrollably, unable to finish the adhan, causing the entire army to weep with Umar (Radhiallahu 'anhu) being the most emotional of them all
Love is Bilal on his deathbed experiencing the pangs of death, with his family weeping for him, and Bilal (Radhiallahu 'anhu) saying, "Tomorrow I meet the beloveds: Muhammad and his companions"

Tips for the last 10 nights of Ramadaan

ߓⰟӢߓⰟӢߓⰟӢߓⰟӢ

ߍ Powerful Tips for the Last 10 Nights - by Sheikh Tawfique Chowdhury ߍŠ
1⃣ Do not let your 'performance' until now affect your last 10 days.
ߓ̠The moment of forgiveness could be today or anytime in the coming days! It is not all lost!
ߓ̠If you sincerely wish it could have been better - Chin up and get ready to make it your best yet!
ߓ̠Start with a positive, sincere intention!

2⃣ Today, take a little time to read the Tafseer of Surah al-Qadr to understand what actually happens this night.
ߓ̠You will feel its power & greatness so much more!

3⃣ Do not wait for the 27th Night to give it your "all".
ߓ̠The entire last 10 days should be your target.
ߓ̠Stay up each night!
ߓ̠Would you want to miss Laylatul Qadr even "by chance"?

4⃣ Do not fall into any innovations/celebrations any masjid or culture might try to promote.
ߓ̠Follow the Sunnah!
ߍ The Prophet (sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam) guided us simply: "Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

5⃣ Memorize and keep asking the dua' taught by Rasulullah (sallAllahu 'alaihi wa sallam):
ߍàAllaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).

6⃣ Prepare a short dua' list:
ߓ̠Remember this is as awesome as it ever gets for a servant of Allah! The Night of Qadr, of Destiny!
ߓ̠Consciously pick each and everything you crucially wish for in this dunya, in your deen, family, and in your aakhirah!
ߓ̠Don't forget to include the brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering and in grief!

7⃣ Take brief naps during the day, if possible.
ߓ̠Keep your stomach light and sleep as soon as you have prayed 'isha.
ߓ̠Do not delay! After a brief nap, refresh yourself and get ready for worship.

8⃣ Don't neglect your family!
ߓ̠Rasulullah made it a point to wake up his wives throughout these nights!
ߓ̠And yes, your children are not too young to stay up some part of the night - if they can be allowed to play video games or watch TV, they can be inspired to be up atleast for sometime!
ߓ̠Prepare them, make them excited, plan some activities for them to do!

 9⃣ Look the Part:
ߓ̠The way we dress and prepare has a big effect on our psychology.
ߓ̠Wear your best, perfume yourself, and feel the energy!

ߔߠChoose a spot, whether in the Masjid or in your home, where you can have peace and solitude.
ߓ̠Keep your mushaf, praying mat, and water at hand so that you are not distracted by constantly getting up for this or that.

1⃣1⃣ IMP: This is not the night to tweet pics or update FB statuses about how amazing the night is and how you are feeling & worshipping Allah!
ߓ̠Let that be a secret between you & your Rabb!
ߓ̠So switch off those phones, wifi, laptops and computers.
ߓ̠Disconnect with the world, and connect with al-'Afuww!

1⃣2⃣ If you find yourself feeling sleepy, vary your acts of worship.
ߓ̠Alternate between qiyaam, heartfelt dua'a, reading the Qur'an.
ߓ̠Do not spend the night listening to lectures or recitations.
ߓ̠Or do it only for a short while when you feel the sleep coming on!

1⃣3⃣ Patience is the Key:
ߓ̠The last 10 days might be tiring. You might still have work or school.
ߓ̠This is the time to bear all that hardship, and keep firm sabr.
ߓ̠Think how Allah has blessed you with this tremendous opportunity that might NEVER come again in your life again.
ߓ̠If you knew for sure that this was your last Ramadan , if you knew certainly that Jannah was up for grabs, wouldn't you sprint for it no matter what it takes?

1⃣4⃣ This is most important:
ߓ̠Keep husn adh-dhann bi Allah (good expectations from Allah).
ߓ̠When you ask, remember you are asking the Most Generous King. If you hope for the best, He will give you the best. Don't hold back.
ߓ̠Trust in Him, pour out your heart in front of Him, and let no doubt, no barrier, no evil thoughts keep you away from ar- Rahman, ar-Raheem!

Allahumma ballighna laylatal qadr..

Rewind....

*Rewind - 1434 years ago*

❣❣Badr
 Badr❣❣

_The heavens and earth are witnessing a very different morning. There they stand in the middle of the field, facing the opposition, which is a group almost three times larger than them, and five times more equipped. Yet here they stand, the true Mujaahideen_ -  *the SAHAABAH رضى الله عنهم❣*

_2 horses. 70 camels. Some have swords while others hold sticks._
*They wear tattered clothes and no shoes.*

_If they are wounded, there is no one to nurse them._
*If they are to be martyred, there is no one to bury them.*
_If they are to lose, there is no one to cry with them._
_If they are to win, there is no one to watch and congratulate them._
*As if they need any of this❣*

_Where is the leader of these astounding fighters?_
*He is in his tent with his head on the ground in submission. With tears flowing from his eyes and a supplication of victory on his lips:*
_"Oh ﷲ if this hand full of servants are destroyed today, there will be no one left to take your name on this earth."_

*Yes, the mercy to mankind, Muhammad ﷺ has spent the entire night in this way, as his companions رضى الله عنه were overpowered by sleep.*
_Despite their lean and weak bodies, ﷲ granted them courage stronger than that of the Mountains._

*On one side of the field, shining swords are being pulled out of their sheaths, while on the other side, swords held in thin hands; both armies getting ready to put an end to the next.*
_But ﷲ͜عَزَّوَجَــــل granted the Sahaabah رضى الله عنهم  such bravery and courage that despite their sticks, they run onto the battlefield like how an unweaned child will run after milk._
*This is why ﷲ͜عَزَّوَجَــــل granted victory to 313 over 1000❣*

_This is the desire that the Sahaabah رضى الله عنهم had to raise the deen of ﷲ͜عَزَّوَجَــــل_
*They push beyond the limits of nature. Some may think this to be extreme, but this is what earned then this great status.*
_Together with their sacrifices and the help of ﷲ , they are victorious_
*Islaam is victorious*
_We are victorious❣_

*May ﷲ͜عَزَّوَجَــــل make us like the Sahaabah رضى الله عنهم of Badr and grant us the honour of living amongst them and our Beloved Muhammad ﷺ Jannah❣*

The fastest spreading disease

Selfie is the fastest spreading DISEASE of the 21st century, but the world health organization(WHO) does not know this.

Selfie disease is worse than cancer, ebola and HIV if only people realise it.

How can a woman, wake up, take her phone, set the camera, then twist her mouth to the left, bend her nose to the right, open her eyes very wide, and take a shot? Even if she's well positioned and her creature is well captured.

Isn't this a comprehensive error that urgently needs attention in the "emergency ward" ????

Did you know, that Allah swore three(3) times in (surah At-Tin) before HE said:

We have created mankind in the BEST form ??

Why then do you have to keep snapping yourself to re-confirm your beauty?

Do u doubt ur physique?

U are suffering from inferiority complex dats why u keep consoling yourself wit selfies.

Aisha radiAllahu anha had no pictures, yet she is in the hearts of billions of muslims today and forever. So also Maryam, Khadijah, Faatimah and all d sahabiyyah that we remember today for their heroic exploits

You have been snapping hunderds of selfies, yet you are only in the heart of your family, let your words and actions keep memories of you alive.

As for the men who take selfies, its either as a result of juvenile delinquency, youthful exhuberance or feminism theory, naturally adorments and display of beauty is typical of women, I can't imagine how you, a man, will raise your eye brows, make a wink, oil your beards and take a shot, get a life dude.

If you take selfies bcos u wanna be a ladies man, strive to attain jannah, there are 72 pepperistically beautiful huur al ayn waiting for you, you can be their halal ladies-man there.

There are more women involved in selfies than men, stop uploading your pictures, and Allah said,
Wa la tabarojna tabarujal jahiliyatil uula (and do not DISPLAY yourselves like the display of the days of ignorance).
.
I remember a very pretty teenage girl who is virtually d finest in our area, a muslimah yet she goes out half naked, we keep advising her yet she never takes heed, recently she had an accident in a bike, her face was badly bruised, myself and a brother visted her in d hospital, We bought some provisions for her, she slightly covered her plastered face out of shame, the brother gave her a phone and said, won't you take a selfie?

She said, why, in my condition?

The brother said, don't u snap everyday?

She said, but am in a hospital.

The brother said, don't u snap in every event or occasion?

She said, yes, to remember those beautiful events
Yakeen said, what is wrong wit remembering dis event too?

She became speechless and wept.

Have u seen dat Allah is d one who fashions beauty and can also strip one of beauty?

Alhamdulilah today she wears hijab and niqab and doesn't snap anymore.

How many were the people whom Allah granted extreme beauty, they were carried away by their beauty but its the worms dat are devouring their skin in the graves today!

Oh you, who spend your life disobeying Allah, no one among your enemies is more wicked to you than you are to your own self.

May Allah save us from the fitnah of pictures, ameen

Happiness

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn't know how she was going to make it.

She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed.

Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.

Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and ground coffee beans in the third pot.

He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.

Turning to her, he asked. "Daughter, what do you see?" "Potatoes, eggs and coffee," she hastily replied.

"Look closer", he said, "and touch the potatoes." She did and noted that they were soft.

He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

"Father, what does this mean?" she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity-the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak.

The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard.

However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

"Which one are you?" he asked his daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

In life, things happen around us, things happen to us, but the only thing that truly matters is what happens within us.

Which one are you? When problems come (and they will) how will we react? Will they make us weak, hard hearted or will they cause us to change into something worthwhile?

"Happiness is not something you find, it's something you create."

I'TIKAAF

The observation of I'tikaaf during the last ten days of Ramadaan was the continuous practice of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam. The devotion that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam attached to this beautiful Sunnah can be understood by the fact that on the occasion when he missed I'tikaaf due to an expedition, he observed twenty days of I'tikaaf the following year.

Undisturbed seclusion in the Masjid is indeed an excellent way to engage oneself in communication with Allah Ta'ala. Away from the comfort of the home, family members and the daily work routine, I'tikaaf enhances one's proximity to Allah Ta'ala and secures the internal and external purification of the Mu'takif when performed correctly.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam has stated, “Whosoever performs I'tikaaf for a day seeking the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala, Allah Ta'ala will open three trenches between him and the fire of hell, the width of each (trench) being the distance between the heaven and the earth.” (Tabraani)

The Sunnah I'tikaaf in South Africa will commence at sunset on Sunday, 26 June 2016.

Dua e Jameelah

It is stated that one day while the Beloved Blessed Holy Prophet Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) was sitting in the mosque of Al Madinah, Hazrat Jibrael came and said that 'The Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) quoted Salaam and said that the Dua-E-Jameelah is being sent for thine Followers', the Beloved Blessed Holy Prophet Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) 'How much is the credit for it?' Hazrat Jibrael said 'Whosoever recites it or keep it with him, his sins, may it be like the foams of river or like the sand of the desert or equal to leaves of trees, shall be forgiven and at the time of death the pains shall be eliminated by the Palm of the Almighty. And an Angel would protect him in the grave till the Dooms day. And the One who recites it at the time of breaking the fast on the 15th Ramadan and he does not know how to recite but keeps it in his hand and recites (with ablution) Darood Sharif 11 times, gets boundless Credits and the Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) will fulfill whatever his need be.If recited once in a life time, On Dooms Day, one will cross Pur Sirat without diffuculty and enter Paradise . Then Hazrat Jibrael Said ' Oh Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) warn your followers against the Fire of Hell. If I state the full greatness of this prayer, masses shall give up all prayers and observance of fast, It is sufficient to say that whatsoever recites this prayer or keeps it with him will be safe from every magic, get enemies befriended. And whatsoever recites it or keeps it with him, his face on Dooms day will be bright like the moon; and the atonement of missing the prayers will be forgiven; and while in Journey will not feel lazy in saying the prayers; and when he shall rise from his grave on Dooms day people will say 'which messenger of God is he?, then the Almighty Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) will reply 'He is not a messenger but one who recited Dua-E-Jameelah with earnestness. Things are not what they appear to be!

Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.
The family was rude and refused to let the angels
stay in the mansion's guest room.
Instead the angels were given a small space in the
cold basement.
As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older
angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.
When the younger angel asked why, the older angel
replied, Things aren't always what they seem"
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.
After sharing what little food they had the couple let
the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.
When the sun came up the next morning the angels
found the farmer and his wife in tears.
Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.
The younger angel was infuriated and asked the
older angel how could
you have let this happen?
The first man had everything, yet you helped him, she accused.
The second family had little but was willing to share
everything, and you let the cow die..
"Things aren't always what they seem," the older angel replied.
"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I
noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.
Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and
unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it."
"Then last night as we slept in the farmers bed, the
angel of death came for his wife I gave him the cow instead.
Things aren't always what they seem."
Sometimes that is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should. If you have faith, you just need to trust that every out come is always to your advantage. You just might not know it until some time later...
Some people come into our lives and quickly go..
Some people become friends and stay awhile...
leaving beautiful
footprints on our hearts... and we are never quite the same because we have made a good friend!!
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!

Are we following the crowd?

When Umar bin al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) was walking in the market, he passed by a man who was supplicating,

اللهم اجعلني من القليل اللهم اجعلني من القليل

“O Allah, make me from the few! O Allah make me from the few!”

So ‘Umar said to him, “Where did you get this du`a’ (supplication) from?” And the man said, “Allah in His Book says
و قليل من عبادي الشكور
‘And few of My servants are grateful.’ (Qur’an 34:13)”

So ‘Umar wept and admonished himself,

“The people are more knowledgeable than you, O Umar! O Allah make us from Your ‘few’ servants.”

Sometimes when you advise someone to leave a sin, they respond with “But everybody does it, it’s not just me!” But if you look for the words “most people" in the Qur’an, you will find that most people -

ولكن اكثرهم لا يعلمون
“And however most people do not know” (7:187)
ولكن أكثرهم لا يشكرون
- “and most people do not show gratitude” (2:243)
and
و لكن اكثر الناس لا يؤمنون
- “and most people do not believe” (11:17).

And if you look for “most of them”, you will find that most of them are
و آن أكثرهم فَاسِقُون
- “definitely disobedient” (5:59)
و لكن أكثرهم يجهلون
- “ ignorant” (6:111)
بل أكثرهم لا يعلمون الحق فهم معرضون
- “turning away” (21:24)

So be of the “few”, whom Allah says about them:

و قليل من عبادي الشكور
- “And few of My servants are grateful.” (34:13)
و ما امن معه الا قليل
- “But none had believed with him, except a few.” (11:40)
في جنات النعيم ثلة من الاولين و قليل من الآخرين
- “In the Gardens of Bliss, A [large] company of the former peoples, And a few of the later peoples.” (56:12-14)

Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) said, “Go on the path of truth and do not feel lonely because there are few who take that path, and beware of the path of falsehood and do not be deceived by the vastness of the perishers.”
[Found in Kitab al-Zuhd by Ahmad bin Hanbal (رحمه الله), and also in the Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah.]

May Allah make us of His few servants.ameen ❗

I am a Muslim

By Safiyya Ismail

“I am a Muslim and there is nothing Islamic about killing innocent people in Paris, San Bernardino, or anywhere else in the world. True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion.” - Muhammad Ali.

Last week I watched the memorial service of a great human being where everyone came together to celebrate this proud Muslim pioneer. His messages were clear: Islam was a religion of peace, non-discrimination, and a religion of love.

Fast forward to a week later, and it’s like the flip of a switch. The praise heard for the religion last week, has turned so quickly into hatred.

It’s incomprehensible how one mentally unstable person with a history of domestic violence with so many skeletons in his closet could be the cause of this.
How can this guy possibly be a poster boy for Muslims everywhere?

I hear so many versions of Muslims every time someone is responsible for killing a group of people or bombing parts of a city. “Islamist,” “radical Muslim,” “radical Islamist,” “fundamentalist Muslim,” “moderate Muslim” and “conservative Muslim, to mention but a few.”

And suddenly, just reciting the Quran, praying 5 times a day, fasting, or attending the local mosque is viewed with suspicion.

I have now reached the point of switching my TV off every time I see a panel of speakers. All they talk about is “radical Islam”. I’m so tired of seeing Muslims who have to come on TV and apologise for those who bomb, kill, and create mayhem. We have to give a list of everything that we are not.
Why do we have to make excuses for those who hate?

All I can say is that they are ignorant, filled with hatred and twist verses to suit them. They have zero respect for men, women or children. And those who do not pledge allegiance to them are killed. It’s not like I know them, but one thing I do know is that they are sick. They have hijacked a religion and are using it to the max.
Dumb questions always follow these events; questions such as: what kind of Muslim are you and where do you come from?

I am a Muslim.

I am also proudly South African.

My parents were born here, as were my grandparents. My great grandparents were brought here on “slave ships from India” to work on the plantations. I am more South African than I ever will be an “Indian from India”.

I have no ties to nor am I affiliated with any terrorist group or network and I certainly do not scout any forums to read up on conversations regarding terror cells.
Instilled in me are values my parents taught me: love all, hate none, be generous and respect all people. Help your neighbour, feed the poor, give to charity - the list goes on. Never did I receive any negative teaching from my parents or Imams, and not once did anyone say, “hate those who do not believe, or kill, plunder and murder.” In fact every time my mother hears about “suicide bombers” she says “Astagfirullah!”

Because it is an expression of shame, killing oneself is detested in Islam. Now imagine taking innocent lives with you - how much more deplorable is that?
As a Muslim, you know what really fascinates me?

I love Sufism. I enjoy mystical music and poetry. I long to visit Baghdad one day, to feel how Sufi’s mid-9th century felt like. I want to watch the "Whirling Dervishes" from the Mevlevi order of Turkish Sufis. I yearn to sit and listen to them recite teachings of Rumi. I would love the opportunity to spin around like the semazens; to shed my ego and lift my right hand in order to receive grace from God.

Oh, by the way I also pray, recite the Quran and attend Muslim gatherings too!

Does any of the above make me a threat to you? Does it classify me as a “Radical Islamist”, or a “terrorist”? This alone goes against what these terrorists stand for. I would be killed at the mere mention of mystical music or poetry.

I am Muslim.

I am a colleague who brings you tasty treats.

I am your friend who wishes you well over Christmas, Diwali, and Rosh Hashanah.

I am your neighbour who assists you in times of need.

I am the person who will help you to pick up something you dropped on the floor.

I am the one who will invite you into my home to partake in a meal with my family because you are alone, and I would want you to feel part of a family.

There is no need to drum up paranoia against the Muslims who actually understand what it means to be Muslim. Why should every Muslim be viewed with suspicion? Stop shoving the rest of us into boxes, labelling us as “adicals” or “terrorists” and then silencing us when we do speak out.

We are accused of not doing enough. Is this not enough? The mere mention of ISIS or any terrorist organisation, probably puts you on a list which is monitored.

As a Muslim, I stand for peace and love, and will never condone the killing of any human being of any religion, colour, creed, sexual orientation, be it in any country.
It’s like we have to walk around with the following all the time:
“No, all Muslims are not terrorists.”
“No, not all terrorists are Muslim.”

We also have to ensure we have a back up. A verse from our holy book. How do we educate all of you and make you understand that not all of us are the same? What do we have to do to prove that we are peaceful?

What do people want us to do? Put our hands over heart, pledge loyalty, prove our peaceful stance whilst our very own also bleed from these attacks by ISIS, the Taliban, or any other terrorist group?

I think it’s time to stop fighting each other, and start fighting those who brought the fight to us all.

Flower & Windmill Klim Roti Savoury

Maaf for sending recipe in pic form. Will type it out later. This year only difference was that I braised sliced onions in ghee and then added chicken cubed pieces with spices. Additional spices I added were mustard powder , Robertsons barbecue spice, crushed jeero & fresh red masala which is made with fresh red chillies, garlic, lemon juice & jeero.
Then for the flower klim roti I spread red chutney on top roti, chicken & cheese & close up. Then on underside roti I spread Mrs Balls Original Chutney . Has a lovely sweet spicy taste.
Then for Windmill klim roti exact same thing but on top roti I put red chutney , filling & cheese, & on underside roti I put Mrs Balls Chilli chutney ( lekker & spicy ) .

Tikka chicken Naan pizza

Original recipe by Mishka Osman with amendments
2 cups cake flour
2 cups self raising flour
1 tsp instant dry yeast
50ml yoghurt/ maas
1 tsp salt
1 tsp whole fennel (saumf)

Method:
Mixed all ingredients together and use sufficient warm water to make a soft dough.
Palce dough in a covered dish and allow to rise until doubled in volume. I left mine to rise the whole day.
Divide the dough into 11 parts, roll out and mould them into oval shapes.
For the tikka marinade
- 4 chicken breasts, cut into a small cubes
- 4 to 5 tbl plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tbl Amina Tikka marinade
- a splash of egg-yellow food colour
- salt
- ground garlic and ginger (a tsp each)
- white pepper for additional heat
- a squeeze of half a lemon
- half a tsp of black pepper
- a tsp each of ground cumin and coriander powder
Allow to marinate for a few hours.
remove the chicken from the marinade and grill in a Tfal optigrill to the well-done stage.
Spoon the balance of the marinade into a pan and add a stick of butter. Bring to a bubble and remove from the heat.
Once your pizza has been shaped, begin assembling it:
- a thin layer of green chutney
- a sprinkle of cubed red and green pepper
- a sprinkle of grated gouda cheese
- top with chicken
- drizzle over the thickened and cooked marinade
Pop into the oven at 150 degrees.
Bake for 15 minutes.
The base should have browned under with little air bubbles.
Make a dressing with yoghurt, cumin and salt.
Drizzle over and garnish with chopped coriander.
Do not pre-bake the base's.

CHICKEN SPINACH FETA QUICHE

5 cups chicken fillet ( cubed )
2 pkts spinach
5 blocks feta cheese
11/2 to 2 cups gouda cheese
4 eggs
2 onions
METHOD:
Braise 2 sliced onions in ghee just for few minutes. Make it very lightly golden in colour. Then add your cubed chicken with aromat , fine red chillie powder, black pepper, grated nutmeg (abt 1-2tsp) and crushed garlic.
Then cook spinach in another pan with salt , crushed green chillies and crushed garlic and little olive oil or oil. I used oil (abt 1 Tbsp)
Then I made a white sauce:
2 Tbsp flour, 2 Tbsp butter and 500ml milk .Add very little salt cos chicken and spinach have salt & feta is salty on its own too.
Then I beat 4 eggs separately.
Lastly I mixed all the above ingredients together with 1 × 250ml fresh cream, the gouda cheese and the 5 × blocks feta cup up . I cut the feta into 1cm cubes ( nice and big so then it doesn't melt into mixture whilst baking. You want to feel you biting into yummy feta.
Pour into greased cup cake pans and bake on 180 degrees till done. Once baked leave to cool in tray for 15-20 min and then only remove.
Nb : I forgot to put baking powder but we loved it, if I had remembered to put then maybe abt 2 tsp I would say.
I did find under a bit oily , could be cos of the cheese or maybe I put too much spray & cook. So what I did was turn them upside down , and left in oven for about 10 min . ( YASMIN JEEWA💖 )

The Spirit of Islamic Ethics

THREE EXAMPLES OF OUR NOBLE RASULULLAH SALLALLAAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM 'S STERLING BEHAVIOUR WITH HIS WIVES

Prophet Muhammad صلى االله عليه وسلم Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdillāh, the Imām of the Muwahhidīn, one with best of morals and character, not only advised the Muslim husbands to be good to their wives but he had indeed established an excellent behavior with his wives as clear by the following narration:
1) On the authority of Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anhu) who said: 'On the Eid, the Prophet صلى االله عليه وسلم Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdillāh, the Imām of the Muwahhidīn called me while the Ethiopians were playing with their spears in the masjid saying: “O little red one! Would you like to watch them?” I replied 'Yes.' Then, he had me stand behind him and dropped his shoulders, so that I could see.
I rested my chin on his shoulders with my face against his cheek, and I watched over his shoulders.
He kept saying: “Haven't you had enough?”
I kept saying: 'No in order to test my status with him, until finally I had enough...' [Saheeh al-Bukhari, Saheeh Muslim and others]
2) On the authority of Aa'ishah (radiyallahu anha), who said: 'The Prophet returned from the battle of Tabook or it was Khaybar.
There was a curtain over my room. The wind blew, lifting the curtain and exposing a part of my room in which, Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saw some dolls with which Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anhu) used to play. He said: “What is this O Aa'ishah?” She replied 'my daughters (Arabs used to call dolls, daughters).
He saw among them a horse with two wings made out of a piece of cloth. He said: “What is this?”
She replied: 'A horse' He said: “and what are those on the horses?” She replied: 'Two wings' He said: “A horse with two wings?!” Aa'ishah said: 'The Prophet laughed until I could see his molar teeth.' [Authentic - Abo Dawood An Nisa'ee in Al-Ishrah]
3) Also on the authority of Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anhu) who reported that she was once on a trip with the Prophet صلى االله عليه وسلم Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdillāh, the Imām of the Muwahhidīn while still a young girl.
She said: ‘I had not acquired excess body flesh, nor had my body become large.
The Prophet said to his Companions: Move on ahead. When they had gone on ahead of us, he said: Come, and I will race you. Then I beat him in a foot race.’
‘Later on, I was on another trip with him, and he again said to his Companions: ‘Go on ahead.’
Then, he said to me:’ I will race you.’ I had completely forgotten the previous incident.
Moreover, I had become heavier. She asked: How can I race you, when I am in this condition? He replied: You will race me! So, I raced him, and he won the race.
Then he began laughing and said: This is for that victory.' [Authentic - Al-Humaydee, an-Nisa'ee in al-Ishrah and Aboo Dawood]
